Lekki Free Zone Celebrates 20 Years of Growth and Investment
On May 28, a grand ceremony commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Lekki Free Zone’s operations in Nigeria, together with a collective signing ceremony for newly admitted enterprises, was held at the CCECC Building in Beijing.
Mr. Wang Xiangdong, General Manager and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation; Mr. Dabiri, Chairman of Lekki Worldwide Investments Limited and the Lekki Free Zone Development Company; Mr. Yu Zhuorui, Vice President of the China-Africa Development Fund; and Mr. Yuan Huabei, Deputy Director of the Finance Bureau of the Nanjing Jiangning Development Zone Administrative Committee, attended the event as shareholder representatives. The ceremony was hosted by Mr. Wang Xixue, Chief Accountant of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation.
In his address, Mr. Wang Xiangdong expressed his appreciation to the Chinese and Nigerian partners and everyone who had contributed to the development of the zone. He also warmly welcomed the newly admitted enterprises.
He stated that, as the Chinese shareholder of the Lekki Free Zone, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation has consistently aligned its activities with China’s broader national development priorities and remains committed to developing the Lekki Free Zone into a model of China-Africa industrial-capacity cooperation. The company has also remained committed to providing comprehensive support throughout the entire investment and operational process, positioning itself as the most reliable overseas partner for enterprises operating within the zone. Furthermore, it has consistently upheld the principle of consultation, joint development, and shared benefits, ensuring that the Lekki Free Zone remains firmly rooted in Africa and delivers tangible benefits to local communities.
Looking ahead, Mr. Wang stated that the Lekki Free Zone should promote green and low-carbon development, accelerate digital and intelligent transformation, deepen the development of complete industrial value chains, and advance the integration of industrial and urban development. He added that the zone should continuously improve its management and service capabilities, further optimize the business environment, and work with resident enterprises to share the benefits arising from China-Africa cooperation and development.
In his remarks, Mr. Dabiri expressed his appreciation to the Chinese partners and extended a sincere welcome to the enterprises that had chosen to invest in the Lekki Free Zone.
He stated that the Lekki Free Zone had transformed from marshland 20 years ago into one of West Africa’s most dynamic industrial hubs. He attributed this remarkable achievement to the close and sincere cooperation between the Nigerian government and its Chinese partners.
Mr. Dabiri affirmed that Lekki Worldwide Investments Limited would remain firmly committed to fulfilling its obligations and would continue working with its Chinese partners to improve supporting infrastructure within the zone, strengthen cooperation with surrounding communities, and develop the Lekki Free Zone into a model industrial park for Africa.
Golden Dream Commodity FZE, Henan Second Construction Group Co., Ltd., Dexin Steel Pipe (China) Co., Ltd., Angang Group Rongsheng Free Zone Company, and other enterprises operating within the zone delivered special presentations. The Lekki Free Zone Development Company also presented an overview of the zone’s investment environment.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, nine newly admitted enterprises signed land investment and development agreements with the Lekki Free Zone Development Company.
Looking ahead, the Lekki Free Zone will continue to increase investment in supporting infrastructure and strengthen the physical foundations required for sustained development. It will also comprehensively upgrade its management and service capabilities to further improve the business environment.
Building on its established foundation of fully developed infrastructure and prepared land, commonly described as “six connections and one levelling,” the Lekki Free Zone is committed to offering more attractive policy incentives, more efficient one-stop services, and a more comprehensive industrial ecosystem. Its objective is to become West Africa’s most attractive emerging industrial investment destination and to welcome investors from around the world.
