On July 9, 2025, the Lekki Free Zone Development Company (LFZDC) received a joint delegation from the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center of China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment and Nigeria’s National Council on Climate Change.

The visit supported the development of the proposed Lekki Low-Carbon Demonstration Zone, aimed at promoting cleaner industrial growth and supporting Nigeria’s climate and energy-transition objectives.

During the meeting, LFZDC presented the Zone’s infrastructure, energy requirements and development priorities. Discussions focused on electricity supply, energy efficiency, pollution prevention, water protection and the integration of sustainable infrastructure.

The delegation also visited companies operating in solar energy, energy storage and electric vehicles, as well as the Zone’s natural-gas power facilities, to assess existing low-carbon initiatives and gather information for the development plan.

On July 10, LFZDC and the delegation engaged the Lagos State Government to discuss policy coordination, infrastructure planning and resource support.

The initiative is expected to improve energy efficiency, encourage investment in green technologies, reduce environmental impact and create new economic opportunities. It also reinforces LFZDC’s commitment to developing the Lekki Free Zone into a modern, competitive and environmentally responsible industrial hub.
