On August 28, 2025, His Excellency Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, Nigeria’s Minister of Housing and Urban Development, led a delegation on an inspection visit to the Lekki Free Zone. The visit aimed to strengthen communication and cooperation between the government and the private sector, gain deeper insight into the development of enterprises within the Zone, promote local building-materials manufacturing, and support the implementation of Nigeria’s national housing strategy.

Accompanied by representatives of CCECC Nigeria Limited and the management of the Lekki Free Zone Development Company, the delegation visited manufacturers of building materials and electrical products operating within the Zone.

The first stop was Henan DR Construction FZE, where the Minister and his delegation toured the company’s laboratory and production facilities. They received detailed briefings on the company’s achievements in materials testing, construction technology, and local manufacturing. Minister Dangiwa commended the company’s efforts in technological innovation and local capacity development.

The delegation subsequently visited Langsheng Electrical FZE, where it examined the production processes and technical capabilities involved in manufacturing high-voltage switchgear and substation equipment. The Minister praised the company’s professionalism and expertise in supporting the development of Nigeria’s power infrastructure.

During the subsequent discussion, Minister Dangiwa noted that Nigeria is at a critical stage of rapid industrialisation and urbanisation, resulting in steadily growing demand for building materials, electrical equipment, and other supporting products. He emphasised that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development recognises the important role of the building-materials industry in reducing housing construction costs and promoting industrial development.

He expressed the hope that the Lekki Free Zone would continue to serve as a bridge and platform for industrial cooperation between China and Nigeria, attract more high-quality investments, and facilitate the establishment of a building-materials manufacturing industrial park integrating research and development, production, and product display. Such a park would help reduce dependence on imports, strengthen local supply capacity, and provide greater support for the implementation of Nigeria’s housing strategy and urban development agenda.

China and Nigeria are currently at different stages of industrial development. While China’s building and construction-materials industries face intense competition and several market challenges, Nigeria—the largest economy in Africa—is experiencing accelerated infrastructure development and urbanisation. Its substantial market demand presents unprecedented opportunities for Chinese companies in the building-materials, electrical-equipment, home-appliance, and related industries to expand internationally.

With its well-developed internal and external infrastructure, secure environment, and efficient business climate, the Lekki Free Zone has become an important platform for Chinese enterprises seeking to invest in Africa.
